Anderson County High School baseball hosted neighboring Franklin County last Thursday in Lawrenceburg. The visiting Flyers grabbed the lead early and never relinquished it, beating the Bearcats 6-1 to hand Anderson their second straight defeat, and their fourth of the young season.

The Bearcats started with Judson Van Neste on the mound. He was able to strike out the first batter looking. Following a walk, a ground ball to right field gave Franklin County the first run of the game. Following a single to left field to put two runners on, a reached ball error gave Franklin another run. A ground out on the next at bat allowed one more run, giving Franklin an early three-run lead.

The score would remain locked at 3-0 until Ashton Lewitt opened the bottom half of the fourth inning with a solo homer to left field to give Anderson County their lone run of the night.

Franklin County extended their lead in the top of the sixth, when a reached ball error on a ground ball allowed a runner to score. Following that, in the top of the seventh, Franklin would get two more runs, when a passed ball resulted in two runners getting home.

Five different Bearcats took the mound in the contest. Van Neste started, pitching two innings and striking out four Flyers and walking one. Lewitt pitched an inning, earning a strikeout. Aaron Robinson pitched for one inning, striking out two and walking one. Elijah Whitaker pitched two innings, striking out one. Brayden O’Bryan struck out one while walking two.

Anderson County had five hits total for the contest, with Lewitt, Mason Drury, Logan Grubb, Bailey Cole, and Ethan Womack getting hits. Whitaker was able to steal two bases. The team ended the night with five errors, compared to zero errors committed by Franklin County.

The Bearcats are back in action tonight, taking on Scott County at home beginning at 6 PM. The team then travels to Simon Kenton on Saturday, taking on the Pioneers in a regional contest beginning at 11 AM.
