1920- Possum huntin'

This photo was a mystery photo that ran in The News in 1972. These three youngsters proudly displayed two fat possums the lad in the center had caught. Readers asked to guess who they were. The one of the left no longer lived in Kentucky and the other two were seen regularly around town. The snap shot was made in 1920. The answer appeared in the next edition of the paper. They were, from left: Jim Dailey, 8; Matt Birdwhistell, 15; and his sister Ruby Towles, 8, at the old Birdwhistell home place on Bonds Mill Road. Matt caught the possums and this photo was taken a long time before Matt took up barbering. Sport and Rover, to dogs at left, were Matt’s possum dogs.
