Spencer County Elementary School held its 5th Grade Promotion Ceremonies in two parts on May 19, with the class of 2023 consisting of 111 students.
Principal Jared Scott spoke to the family and friends of the fifth graders.
“This year’s theme at school was ‘The best school on Earth’ based on the one and only Elvis Presley,” said Scott. “This is not the end, just the time to send them on to their next journey. Time to reflect on the memories of the past, and to start the new chapter in their story.”
The fifth graders then sang “Isn’t it Amazing” to the audience, followed by the reading of messages by Maxwell Seamon and Abigail Brown.
At the first Ceremony at 10 a.m., the students from Mallory and Penrod’s classes, with Daugherty and Sanford’s classes being recognized at 12 noon.
In closing, Scott told the students that their greatest accomplishments will not be a trophy or a recognition, but the ability to be whatever you want to be. “These cubs have now grown into Grizzlies.”

After the completion of the ceremony, the fifth graders took one last lap around the school with the lower classmen lining the hallways, and then went outside to play on the newly erected playground equipment.
