Darwyn W. “Dyke” Platt, 87, of Taylorsville, passed away on Friday, March 10, 2023, at his home surrounded by his loved ones.

Born in Bloomington, IL, on Aug. 22, 1935, he was the only son of the late Edward Jesse and Alice Eloise Kendall Platt. A veteran of the United States Air Force, he served our country from 1953 until 1961 as a member of the Strategic Air Command. He flew several reconnaissance missions over enemy territory, and he was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.

Before moving to Taylorsville, he was employed as the eastern region marketing manager of the Denver-based Gates Rubber Company. During his retirement, he became actively engaged in the local community. He served on the Taylorsville/Spencer County Planning and Zoning Commission, and volunteered for the non-profit Taylorsville Main Street Program, and he was a past member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He also belonged to the Reasor Avenue Garden Club.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Desjardins.

His survivors include his beloved wife of nearly fifty years, Lois Platt, of Taylorsville; daughters, Rebecca Martin, of Silver City, New Mexico, Cynthia Erickson (Ray), of Louisville, Diana Lankford (Terry), of Whitehouse, TN, and Deann Edison of Nashville, TN; sons, Lin Nease (Mia), of Half Moon Bay, CA, and Lon Nease (Shannon), of Cincinnati, OH; 17 grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.
