Riley Burton, Hunter Gustinis and Braydon Kessinger take home medals from the GRC.

In the last tournament of 2022, the Bears wrestling team traveled to George Rogers Clark High School to compete in a two-day tournament. Day one would be a team duals tournament, and day two would be individuals.

Though the Bears came into the Duals tournament ready to compete, they struggled against Great Crossings and Male, taking only one win in the early rounds against East Jassimine. In the bracket round, Spencer would lose to Ohio’s John Overton High School, but take home a win against West Carter.

Day two, the individuals tournament, would be where the Bears stood out. Nearly every wrestlers posted wins, though three wrestlers would have stand-out performances.

Freshman Riley Burton took third place, with a win over GRC’s McCaden Skeens at 175lbs. Eighth grader Hunter Gustinis posted wins over wrestlers from John Overton, Scott County, and Mason County on his way to a silver medal at 113 lbs. Senior Braydon Kessinger posted wins over wrestlers from Boyle County, Franklin County, and Western Hills on his path to Silver in 138lbs.

Overall it was a solid outcome for our High School wrestlers.
