Graham Dwyer wins over John Hardin’s Deondre Doctor.

On Saturday, the Spencer County Bears wrestling team headed to Campbellsville University to compete in the sec 3 (2A) duals, in hopes of advancing to state. They would face off against regional powerhouses Taylor County, Anderson County, Western Hills, John Harden and Franklin County.

Spectators got their money’s worth, as the Bears battled through matches, seeing strong performances from their freshman class, as Tim Montgomery and Graham Dwyer both won three out of five matches, and freshman standout Riley Burton winning four out of four.

But the duals are about team scores, and not individual matches. Spencer County would post a 48-23 win over Western Hills, and a 60-24 win over Franklin County, but would still come up short of advancing to the state duals.

All is not lost though, as the tough competition at the regional duals gave the wrestlers a lot of needed experience, as they prepare for the State individuals tournament just a few weeks away.

On Wednesday, the Bears will be hosting their final home matches of the year at Spencer County High School. They will host Nelson County and Pleasure Ridge Park. It will be senior night for Seniors Braydon Kessinger, Jayda Thompson and Nick Waldridge. Come out and cheer for your favorite local wrestlers, the wrestling starts at 6 p.m.
