The 8th Region draw was set on Sunday and, for Collins, it could not have been much better.

The Titans play 31st District champion Gallatin County in the first round on Thursday and, the winner of that game will face the winner of 32nd District champion Simon Kenton and 29th District runner up Oldham County.

The other side of the bracket features 29th District champions North Oldham and 30th District champs Woodford County going against 32nd District runner up Grant County and 31st District runner up Owen County, respectively.

By the KHSAA’s RPI rankings, the Titans find themselves on the same side of the bracket as the three lowest ranked tournament teams, but that doesn’t mean head coach Chris Gaither is taking anything for granted.

“Our region is tough and Gallatin always plays at an intensity that’s hard to match,” he said via text message. “It’s the draw you want, but still a challenging region no matter how the draw goes.”

In the third game of the year, Collins beat Gallatin County 82-46. Against potential second round opponents Simon Kenton and Oldham County, the Titans hold two wins this year against the Pioneers and beat Oldham County 83-51.

The 8th Region Tournament tips off Wednesday at 6:30 at Henry County. The first game is North Oldham against Grant County. The Titans cap off the first round with an 8 p.m. tip on Thursday.
