Collins sophomore Emma Kendall repeated as 3A Region 4 800m champion, once again edging out Oldham County junior Tula Fawbush. Kendall completed the run in 2:14.83, just ahead of Fawbush’s 2:15.10.
Kendall will defend her 800m state championship on Saturday, June 3 at the University of Kentucky.
She won’t be the only Titan there as both Nathan Janes and Grace Evans both earned automatic qualifications to the state meet with their runner-up performances in the pole vault in Monday’s region meet at Eastern High School.
Janes took second by clearing 12 feet while Evans cleared nine feet to also take second place.
At press time, the at-large qualifiers have not been announced yet, but the Titans have several hopefuls for those slots.
Makayla Wilson took third in the shot put with a throw of 29-feet-8-inches and took fourth in the discus with a throw of 89-feet-7-inches.
Ziara Taylor and Janes both took fourth in their respective 300m hurdle races with Taylor crossing the finish line in 48.71 seconds and Janes hitting the mark in 45.04 seconds. Kendall and Taylor joined Sofia Leon and Mariah Wilson in the 4x400m relay, which took sixth with a time of 4:15.6 to set a new school record. Janes started things for the boys’ 4x800m relay.
That team consisted of Janes, Eli Moreno, Melbyn Velasquez and Jack Fuhrman and finished the race in 8:45.09 to also take sixth.
Sophie Bush earned points for the Titans in the pole vault, finishing three spots behind teammate Evans with a mark of six feet and Katelynn Gaddis took fifth in the 3200m run with a time of 11:56.38.
