Judith Burks Reed, 74

Judith Burks Reed

Judith Burks Reed, 74, passed away in the early morning of Thursday, the 24th day of November, 2022, at the Emergency Unit of the Jewish Hospital Shelbyville. Born in Louisville on the 9th day of December in 1947, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Wilson and Lucy Reid Miller Burks.

Judith was a 1966 graduate of Seneca High School in Louisville. United in marriage on the 8th day of August in 1998 in Louisville to Bill D. Reed, she was blessed by gaining two daughters, Angie and Barb, and a granddaughter, Zoe. She then made her new home at an Air Force Base in Aviano, Italy, where her husband was employed as a teacher at the American High School.

She quickly immersed herself in doing volunteer work at the high school in both the nurse's office and library. An animal lover, she was always contributing to various causes to help save animals’ lives and to provide for and to improve their welfare, housing, and living conditions.

She also enjoyed reading, needlepointing, and traveling with Bill during their lives in Italy, and also to other destinations after they retired to live in Kentucky. But Judith cherished most her family time with her new family and her time with her Kentucky family, too.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her second father, C.W. Stoll, who had a major impact on her life.

Survivors include her husband of over 24 years, Bill Reed of Shelbyville, formerly of Elsberry, Missouri; their children, Angela Reed and Barbara Cazzola Reed and her husband, Paolo Faltiba; their two granddaughters, Viola Faltiba and Zoe Faltiba; her two sisters, Susan Burks and her friend, Larry Sanford, and her twin sister, Gerry Swarts and her husband, Leon; her nieces and nephew, Tammy, Becky, and Robert; and her three great-nieces, Kalie, Libby, and Amanda; her stepsister, Christina Kramer and her family; her stepbrother, Charles C. Stoll and his family; and her cat, Misty, whom she adored.
