North Oldham began its Eighth Region tournament redemption tour with a 3-0 sweep of Collins (25-15, 25-12, 25-15) in the quarterfinals on Oct. 24 at Eminence.

The Lady Mustangs are searching for their eighth championship in the last nine years after having a seven-year title run broken in last year’s quarterfinals.

“We just wanted to set the tone for the rest of the tournament,” junior Lucy Rankin said. “We’re all just working for the some game of winning the region tournament and going far into state. That’s really driving us to play our best every game.”

North Oldham entered the tournament as winners of seven straight games, and it kept its recent form and made quick work of the Lady Titans in all three sets.

“We just have a drive. We really want to prove ourselves this year,” junior Ellie Wilson said. “We knew what we had to do to get the job done.”

Five Lady Mustangs recorded at least four kills in the win, led by senior Caroline Rankin with eight. Junior Brooke Bennett paced the team with 16 digs, and Lucy Rankin served five aces in a lopsided affair.

The Lady Mustangs advance to face tournament host Eminence on Oct. 26 at 8 p.m. The Lady Warriors enter the contest on an 11-game winning streak.

“If we play North volleyball, the rest will fall into place,” Bennett said.
