Eminence — Robert Leon “Boogie” New, age 95, of Eminence, Ky. passed away Wednesday, May 17, 2023 at the New Castle Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on July 10, 1927 in Turners Station, Ky. to Albert and Allie Sanders New. Boogie was a member of the Christiansburg Baptist Church, retired from the Brunswick Corporation as a shipping specialist and also a retired farmer. He enjoyed fishing, carpentry, small engine repair and was a Kentucky Colonel. Mr. New proudly and honorably served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II.
His survivors include a daughter; Ruth Ann (Butch) Fitzgerald of Shelbyville, Ky., two sons; Brad (Elisa) New and Brent (Dee Dee) New, both of Pleasureville, Ky., seven grandchildren; Michelle Fitzgerald, Troy (Stuart) Fitzgerald, Matt Fitzgerald, Samantha (Kenny) Pierce, Macie (Candace), New, Landon New and Chaney New, seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; Laverne Holmes New in January 2022 and two brothers; Harry Lee New and Orlester “Bugs” New.
Funeral Services were held on Saturday, May 20, 2023 at 1 p.m. at the Sholar-Riley Funeral Home with the Rev. Harry Hebert officiating. Burial was in the Pleasureville Cemetery.
Honorary pallbearers were Leland Erwin, Mike Rassman, Michelle Fitzgerald, Chaney New, Macie New and Samantha Pierce. Pallbearers were Troy Fitzgerald, Matt Fitzgerald, Matthew Fitzgerald, Landon New, Keegan Morris and Stuart Boyd.
